Apricot Sky Productions Presents An America Under Siege, Threatened By Terrorists From Without And Within, With One Man Pushed To The Breaking Point in Eric Alter's Searing World Premiere Drama THE WAR AT DAWN
You never know the true mettle of a man until he's under fire. Such is the case in Eric Alter's bleak look at the not-so distant future, in the World Premiere drama THE WAR AT DAWN. Directed by Rodney E. Reyes, the show will be performed at the Beckman Theatre Space at the American Theatre of Actors, located at 314 West 54th Street, beginning October 11th.
America, 2010. Nearly a decade after 9/11, the country's war on terrorism continues, with the U.S.A. very much on the losing side. The Golden Gate Bridge has been destroyed by insurgent attacks, much of Ohio has been devastated by a nuclear explosion, and pretty much all the things we thought could never happen on our home shores have occurred. In addition, civil liberties are pretty much a thing of the past, the draft has been reinstated, martial law has been declared and more and more troops are shipping out every day.
On the eve of their leaving for god-knows-where, (it's classified on a “need to know” basis), two young soldiers, a draftee from Mississippi, who's also a trained psychologist, and a gung-ho enlistee from New York meet atop a hill overlooking their military base. Diametrically opposite in points of view, the two argue about the various aspects of the current situation; such as the impossibility of killing all of the enemy, the need to defend one's country and how can one negotiate with someone who simply wants to annihilate us. But all too soon, these two individuals will find themselves united in a common cause – that of their own survival, as a third, much older and more than slightly drunk man stumbles out of the woods with a terrible secret. For unlike the two raw recruits, this mysterious newcomer has experienced the terror of war first-hand, with all the horrors that go with it; and he's bound and determined not to go through that again – ever.
Using the viewpoints and beliefs of these three very different people, THE WAR AT DAWN asks how can we bring peace to a world that's gone mad; where one man's justice is another's atrocity, and where killing the enemy is no longer as simple as just dropping a bomb somewhere. Regardless of the answer, and no matter who survives this very long night, one thing is clear. Soon the sun will be rising in the eastern sky and when the dawn breaks – it will be time to go to war again.
The cast of THE WAR AT DAWN features Miguel Emir, Morgan Parker, Hayden Roush and Sonia Tatninov.
